Slot canyons are narrow canyons formed by the erosion of the rock by rushing water. They present a significant challenge for photographers because they are both narow and deep.
Historically, most photography in slot canyons has been done when the sun is at or near its zenith, allowing direct penetration of sunlight into the canyon. With high dynamic range (HDR) imaging, it's now possible to capture detail in areas not lit directly. This results in interesting, changing colors as the light changes frequency as it bounces down the canyon walls. All of my photos here are HDR images, usually tken well before or well after the sun is at its zenith for the day.
